President's Message for 2009

Dear Members and Friends of PESNC,

It is with great pleasure and pride that I write to you as the incoming president of the Police Emerald Society of Nassau County. I have been fortunate to be a member of this society for the past twenty-three years and served under eight past presidents. During that time I have been enriched with memorable social events, Irish culture and good friendships all in the name of law enforcement and Irish heritage. I have been blessed with shining examples of good leadership and management in these past presidents. I hope to continue our fine traditions in the same fashion.

The incoming Board of Officers is a well-rounded cross section of departments and law enforcement positions, which will lend to an increase in membership and attendance at events. The Board of Directors is a group of men that have proven their success time and time again, which means our Board of Officers is in good counsel. In this current national and local fiscal crisis, the PESNC maintains a healthy financial status and a strong membership. It is testament to the good men that built this society.

The Board is proud that our society is a forerunner on the national emerald society level. Thanks to Board Director Lou Walker and 2nd VP Jamie Wilson for their efforts in keeping PESNC as a recognized benchmark for police emerald societies in this country, as board members of the National Conference of Law Enforcement Emerald Societies (NCLEES).

This coming year of 2009 brings exciting and important events. Past presidents Pat Crowe and Willie Costigan promise a nostalgic and retro post-Garden City Parade party at the Knights of Columbus in Mineola. The NCLEES event in Washington, D.C. coincides with police week in mid-May, followed by our own Installation Dinner Dance on Thursday-May 21, 2009 at the Cresthollow Country Club. June brings all of the fraternal organizations together for a group picnic as well as, the sell out golf outing on June 04. The rest of 2009 promises many more events. Please check the website regularly. It is an excellent resource for keeping informed and staying in touch. Please take advantage of the automatic dues payment through the NCPD Federal Credit Union.

Please join us and become involved in one of the oldest fraternal groups on the job. The Board of Officers will give their all to continue the charitable work of this society while promoting interest in Irish culture and history. We hope to keep the fraternal spirit high among police officers of Irish heritage. You deserve it, you are the thin blue line that protects the citizens of Nassau County and you are Irish ! Two very good things.

Warm Regards,
                                                                           Peter A. McGinn
President
